Tap to measure the beat
Tap Tempo
Turn your taps into BPM. No audio file, microphone, or account needed.
How to use Tap Tempo
Play the song and tap once on every beat you hear. Use the large button, tap the screen, or press the Space bar. Eight to twelve even taps give this BPM counter a better sample than two or three taps.
Pause for more than 2.5 seconds to start a fresh measurement, or use Reset whenever the rhythm changes.
How to read the result
The large number is your average tapping rate in beats per minute. A result of 120 BPM means the taps averaged two beats per second. Copy BPM puts that number on your clipboard.
If the number feels twice as fast or half as fast as the song, tap a different level of the pulse and compare again.
When a tap BPM can be wrong
This tool measures your taps, so an uneven performance creates an uneven estimate. Syncopation, tempo changes, quiet beats, and confusing half-time rhythms make it easier to tap the wrong pulse.
The counter averages consistent intervals and ignores large timing jumps. It does not listen to or analyze the song itself.
Tap tempo FAQ
Is Tap Tempo the same as a BPM counter?
Yes. A tap tempo tool is a manual BPM counter: you supply the beat by tapping, and the page measures the time between taps.
Does this page hear or upload my music?
No. It reads tap timing only. Use the BPM Finder when you want the browser to analyze an audio file or live microphone input.
How many times should I tap?
Start with eight to twelve steady taps. Keep tapping if you want to replace older timing intervals with a newer sample.
